Donald Sterling files divorce from estranged wife

Previous Los Angeles Clippers owner, 81-year-old businessman and lawyer Donald Sterling, filed divorce from his wife of almost 60 years, Shelly Sterling. Additionally, he is suing her for the $2 billion sale of the basketball team to ex-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer.

Sterling’s legal counsel, Bobby Samini, said Sterling cited “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for divorce in the paperwork submitted to the Los Angeles Superior Court.

The court initially rejected Sterling’s divorce paperwork, saying it was incomplete, but it was recently re-filed and lists Aug. 1, 2012 as the date of Donald and Shelly Sterling’s initial separation.

Sterling was banned for life from the NBA after he was recorded telling his alleged mistress, V. Stiviano, not to associate with black people.
