In a joint statement released on Friday, May 13, 37-year-old Scottish actor James McAvoy and 45-year-old English actress Anne-Marie Duff announced that they are getting divorced after 10 years of marriage. The pair still plans to live together as they have plans to co-parent their five-year-old son.
McAvoy has gained world-wide recognition for his role of Charles Xavier, or Professor X, in the latest X-Men trilogy: First Class (2011), Days of Future Past (2014), and Apocalypse (2016). Duff gained recognition after playing series regular Fiona McBride on the television show Shameless. She also starred in the 2015 drama Suffragette. McAvoy and Duff asked their fans and the public to respect their privacy during this time as they make a commitment to moving forward with “continued friendship, love and respect for one another, and the shared focus of caring for our son.”
